Play It Up For Summer

It gets ridiculously hot in Florida and finding a hairstyle that;s both fun and won't melt in the heat can be frustrating. Braids have always been a nice summer staple but sometimes you want to jazz it up and Piggybraid buns does just that. It incorporates three hairstyles, braids, buns and pigtails and not only looks super cute, it keeps your hair up enough to keep you cool.

What You Need:
Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode hairspray (or any stronger hold hairspray)
Boar bristle flat brush
Teasing brush
2 hair ties
4 small rubber bands
2-5 hair pins
2-5 bobby pins

1)Part your hair down the middle, from forehead to the nape of your neck. I have bangs and decided to leave them out but that's completely up to you. You're going to be working one side at a time so use the hair tie to keep the other side out of your way.

2) Working one side at a time, divide the side into two parts, going from the front of your ear to the top of your head. Once you've got your quarter section, secure the top with a hair tie. Spray your hair with hairspray and brush it through to create a nice sleek hold that will keep all of your hair in place.

3)This is where it gets a little complicated. You can choose to do a dutch or french style braid, I chose dutch because I feel it looks better with the braid turned out. French works best if you want something a little more subtle. Bend over forward and braid your hair from the back to the front. If this is a little difficult for you, or you have little to no braiding skills, have a friend help you out. All you would do is bend forward and let them have at it

4)Once the back is secured with a small rubber band, braid the front of your hair in the same style as you did the back. Secure that with another rubber band. This should give you two pigtails on the top of the one side of your head.

5) If you have longer hair, you don't need to tease your hair as much to create volume. You would just tease the root to add a little lift and wrap your hair into a bun You can tease it a little more depending on how messy or sleek you'd like them to look. If you have shorter hair like myself, tease it all, using hairspray to build the base in order to secure your bun. Use as many bobby pins and hair pins to secure your style.

6)Repeat steps 3-5 on the other side et voila, you've got a nice pair of piggybraid buns for summer.

    1. Thank you! My hair is a hot mess, though. It is naturally curly but since I overuse my flat iron it doesn't really do anything anymore. The key is tons of hairspray. I'm trying to let it go curly again, it's just hard after all the damage i put it through :/
