Review: Essie Resort Collection 2016

A review? Coming from me? It's been over a year! I know, I know, it's been a really long time but I needed to talk about one of the first Essie collections I've purchased in a really long time. And boy do I have a lot to say.

The thing that upsets me the most is that the collection is supposed to be inspired by India. When I think of India, I think of rich colors and beautiful saris and amazing vibrant golds and reds and this collection is so far from anything that I think is India. This could have been an amazing collection but it fell so flat.

Aside from the inspiration fail, on paper this collection is really pretty. Muted brights can be nice sometimes. It seemed to be a perfect mix of spring and summer colors. But on, these polishes feel really flat. Not only in color but application. Most of the polishes (3 of 4) were streaky and needed 3 coats to become opaque and it was hard to get rid of the patchiness of the polish even after 3 coats. On top of that, the color that I did like is super similar to another Essie polish I love. Sigh. On with the swatching.

Puppy makes polish a bit cuter.
Going Guru is a nicer mint color but the formula is so streaky and thin I needed about 3 coats for this and still wasn't very happy with it. The color reminds me of a muted, more yellow version of Mint Candy Apple which is a lot nicer of a color and more flattering, in my opinion.

The wear was really nice, though, and I was able to remove this color with minimal staining.

The Mandala makes it prettier, but don't be fooled, it's just the mandala
Taj-Ma-Haul is probably the ugliest polish I own. Yeah, I said it. It's not flattering on me at all, but from what I've seen around the nail web, it's not really flattering on a lot of people. When you first look at this polish it almost looks like a nice peach. It seems a little dusty but that might just be the bottle. Nope. On it looks like straight up terra cotta, which in my opinion isn't the most flattering of colors. The one upside to this color is that out of all the colors, this is the most Indian inspired to me but just barely.

The formula is the same as Going Guru, streaky and in need of three coats to be opaque. It also chips fairly easily and stains the nail beds a bit.

Delhi Dance isn't so bad of a color. Again, not necessarily Indian, in my opinion. It's a little more bubblegum pink on than what appears in the bottle. Not Indian aside, I would have liked this color if it appeared in person what it looks like in the bottle, but it doesn't. It's more pepto bismal on, which isn't really cute on my skin tone.

The formula is the same as the other two, streaky and 3 coats to opaque. This one didn't stain my nail beds, however so a plus in its column, I guess.

And finally one of my faves. Nama-Stay the Night was a gem for this collection. I can sort of see the Indian influence (sort of, not really) but it's a nice bright color that is opaque in 1-2 coats. YAAAAAAAS, finally! The application was really nice, went on really creamy and streak free.

As far as application goes it was great. Wear time was great, didn't shrink and didn't go crazy chipping. But getting this sucker off was a bit of a hassle. I had to really scrub at my nail beds to get the blue out. But that's pretty much on par with any bright blue polish. It sure was the case with Make Some Noise from last year's Neons Collection. It is literally a shade brighter than Nama-Stay the Night. Sigh.

All in all this was a huge miss. I feel bad because I used to love Essie's polishes but the past couple of collections haven't been great. I would love to see something out of the box from them and this resort collection was a huge missed opportunity.

Let me know what you think of this collection. Love you guys!
